AUSTRIAN POST: Austrian & German Free Mail in the Jaffa District: ppc (Ain Karem) originated in Rishon Le Zion, written in Hebrew by Michal Lubman  to Her brother Zrubavel Lubman - "Hebrew Gymnasium Jaffa",  posted free of charge in Jaffa 31.12. 08, canceled JAFFA OSTERR. POST (St. 527) & JAFFA DEUTSCHE POST (St. 221) the same day. Forwarded to Jaffa by one of these Post Offices & transferred to the 2nd Post Office for final delivery; f-vf & Very Rare procedure

FRENCH POST: 1861 - Folded letter with contents written in Jerusalem on 21 November 1861 to London, addressed to Solomon Almosnino the secretary of the Sephardic Community in London. The letter is a request for donation & support and is written in old Sephardic script ("Hatzi Kolmus" - half quill). Very Fine clear strike of  the "Jerusalem Cross" in Blue (Steichele 325), forwarded to the French Post Office in Jaffa, light pearl ring postmark JAFFA/SYRIE 22 NOV 61 (St. 302) all on front. On back transit postmark of ALEXANDRIE /EGYPTE - NOV 61, MARSEILLE A  LYON  4 DEC 61, LYON A PARIS 5 DEC 61 and  arrival LONDON  DE 7  61 postmarks. Charged    9 (pence) in manuscript, the French Levant rate to England as of 1.1.1857. Carried by the "Tamise" that left Alexandria on  26 November 1861 arrived in Marseille on 4 December 1861; scattered spots, fine, certif Tsachor-Aloni
