Ivri stp tied by pmk TEL-AVIV 11.6.1948 (in the contents the detainee tells about the way to send mail via South Africa); air letter w/marginal faults but cpl, pmk & cachet clear, fine & a Rare comb. of a cv of the 1st shipment from S. June 1948 Service Suspended USA to Israel - Airmail cv 25 JUNE 1948 franked 25c from Boston - Mass. to Hadera marked "Return to Sender" and Service Suspended in manuscript. Until June 28, when postal relations were formally established by the USA, anyone in the USA who did not utilize PEDI's services found it virtually impossible to communicate postally with Israel; vf

Clandestine mail routes, via Allenby and Adam Bridges & via a 3rd country - Cyprus and England, “Exterior” cvs to postmasters, Private messenger cvs + private “stamps”(!). Late arrival “taxed” cvs from Bridges, cvs franked w/private travel agencies labels.
